Program |
Just knowing how to plan a charrette and design a
great plan may not be enough to assure a successful charrette.
The complete charrette manager must know how to handle the most
volatile public meetings. In just two days you will gain the lessons
learned from some of the toughest charrettes and learn how so many
potential problems can be defused by knowing how to properly set
up and facilitate public meetings. You will finally be able to
relax while conducting a large meeting, knowing that you have the
most effective tools and preventions in place.

Meeting planning:
• Meeting types: open houses,
workshops, and forums
• Stakeholder analysis
• Decision making options
• Room arrangement and logistics
• Designing the agenda
Meeting facilitation:
• The theory and practice of facilitation
• The unique challenge of the charrette facilitator
• Techniques for dealing with difficult people: Rules of the
microphone, dealing with determined obstructers, handling off-topic
input
• Running hands-on workshops: Techniques for getting to shared
values and vision quickly

doing in a series of role-playing and hands-on exercises
drawn from the most challenging real life situations as
researched and tested by NCI. |
Instructors:
Bill Lennertz, NCI’s Executive Director, will draw upon
his experience from over 150 charrettes and hundreds of public
meetings to teach participants important skills and techniques
for meeting planning, preparation and facilitation.
Prerequisite:
There is a prerequisite requirement for all individuals wishing
to attend "NCI Public Meeting Facilitation." The prerequisite
can be satisfied by any one of the following:
