RFQ to conduct a charrette & prepare a Form-Based Code for Simsbury, CT

June 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The Town of Simsbury invites consultants to respond to an RFQ for a charrette process that will inform the development of a Form-Based Code to preserve the well-defined form, function and character of this community, established in 1670.

The RFQ states, “There is an emerging consensus within the community that a Dynamic Planning process — Research/Education/Preparation, the Charrette, and Implementation - offers Simsbury the best option to achieve its planning objectives.” Thus the Town of Simsbury is especially interested in receiving qualifications from consultants trained by NCI or familiar with NCI’s charrette process.

We have been asked: How do we specify what we want from a charrette? We are an unincorporated small area (not really a town with defined borders) with many closed factories, but beautiful scenery.

    Dear Janet,

Thanks for your question. The charrette can deliver any plan of your choosing. The question is what does your town need, a comprehensive plan, a form-based code, a vision? A charrette can deliver any of those and more. You first need to agree on the problem first. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Thanks,

    Tamara
