Beginning May 13, citizens throughout the seven westernmost counties of North Carolina and the Qualia Boundary will collaborate with a national team of experts to create a “Tool Box” of guidelines for responsible planning and development in the mountains. Even if you live outside the study area, The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina believes your observations and participation will make this process better.
The charrette will take place at the University Center at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, with satellite charrettes in North Macon County and Cashiers. Every session is open to everyone. Click here for complete schedules. The charrettes are key components of what might be the most comprehensive, collaborative land use planning effort in North Carolina history.
Visit the Mountain Landscapes Initiative website to read all about the background, the goals, and the process.
