Final Charrette Public Meeting and Party

September 3rd, 2005 · No Comments

The final charrette public meeting has the potential to create a wave of public support that can carry a project through the inevitable obstacles to its implementation. It is the high point of the charrette, the culmination of many days of hard work by the charrette team and stakeholders. The level of expectation and energy at the final charrette public meeting is very high. The seasoned charrette manager capitalizes on this moment by orchestrating an event that will have a lasting impact on the project. The meeting should be educational and inspirational, concluding with a call for support of the final plan. The desired outcome of the public meeting is for people to leave so excited at the prospect of the project moving forward that they are willing to assist in its implementation as necessary.

Following is a sample meeting agenda for a two-and-a-half hour meeting:

A. Project process and preferred plan presentation

  • Project description and approvals process
  • Daily charrette summary
  • Preferred plan presentation

B. Public input

  • Open forum discussion
  • Open house

C. Reception/party

A post-meeting celebration is a wonderful way to end the charrette on a positive note. Whether it is a full-blown party or a simple reception this event provides the time for the sponsor, charrette team and stakeholders discuss the project in a more relaxed atmosphere. Some project sponsors also use this as a marketing event.
