Named a “Green Project of the Year” by USGBC, Maryland Chapter

(March 2, 2010) – Perryville, Maryland: Woodlands Perryville, the sustainable, master-planned community by Town Point Development has won a Green Project of the Year Award at the U.S. Green Building Council, Maryland Chapter’s (USGBC Maryland) 5th Annual Awards Celebration.  The awards recognize outstanding green building projects, professionals and companies in the state of Maryland. The Woodlands Perryville project, scheduled to break ground in March 2010, was the winner in the ‘Un-built Work’ category.

“We were wonderfully pleased at the number and quality of nominations for awards this year,” said Lorraine Doo, member of USGBC Maryland board.  ”The jury felt that Town Point Development had put a good deal of thought and consideration into the project, beginning with the engagement of the public with the series of planning charrettes – including a charrette with kids.  There was clear attention to multiple environmental issues, such as pedestrian access, public transportation, heat island effects and sustainable strategies for storm water management which is very important in Maryland. We agreed that this project was an excellent example of green community planning and will be much appreciated by the future residents of Woodlands Perryville.”

“We are thrilled that the USGBC thought enough of our project to honor us with this prestigious award,” said Doug Hill, Principal at Town Point Development. “We worked closely with the local community and government officials to develop the Woodlands Perryville plan and this designation gives us even more confidence that our joint vision for a vibrant, sustainable community here in Perryville is within reach.”
